UMD update
Senior C Haley Irwin returns to the lineup after missing last week's exhibition home series with the Minnesota Whitecaps with an injury. The Bulldogs return 15 starters from last season. UMD, 11-1 in season-opening games, went 6-8-2 last season against teams ranked in the top 10. The Bulldogs allowed 1.62 goals a game last season, second-best in Division I. The team's top returning scorers are Irwin at 18-30--48 in 24 games and junior D Jessica Wong at 15-23--38 in 33 games.

Boston College is coming off one of the best seasons in program history going 24-7-6, losing to eventual-champion Wisconsin 3-2 in the Frozen Four semifinals in Erie, Pa. Six of BC's top seven scorers return led by senior captains F Mary Restuccia (11-28--39) and Danielle Welch of Hastings, Minn. (10-15--25). Senior G Kiera Kingston has had limited playing time with 23 career games but is expected to start. BC was picked to finish second, behind Boston University, in a Hockey East preseason coaches poll.
