Fryklund among Bemidji State finalists
Former Hibbing High School star player Amber Fryklund is among four finalists who will interview for the vacant Bemidji State women’s hockey coaching position.
Bemidji State athletic director Tracy Dill announced Monday that Fryklund, Troy Jutting, Jim Scanlan and Brett Bruininks would be on campus Wednesday seeking to fill the job left open when Steve Sertich retired in March.
Fryklund, a 2003 Bemidji State graduate, is the school’s all-time scoring leader with 122 points and has been an assistant coach for the program since 2011. The Western Collegiate Hockey Association team was 11-21-4 last season, a five-game improvement over the 2012-13 campaign.
Fryklund has no experience as a college head coach but was co-head coach for the Duluth Northern Stars high school team from 2004-09.
Jutting, in his second season as an assistant for the Nebraska-Omaha men’s hockey team, was Minnesota State-Mankato men’s head coach from 2000-2012.
