College women's hockey: Ex-Bulldog Koizumi goes to Vermont

Former Minnesota Duluth player and coach Jess Koizumi was named the associate head coach at Vermont on Thursday after spending just one season in the same role at Ohio State.

Former Minnesota Duluth player and coach Jess Koizumi was named the associate head coach at Vermont on Thursday after spending just one season in the same role at Ohio State.

Koizumi was an All-WCHA player for the Bulldogs during her four seasons from 2003-07. She served as captain for two seasons and later returned to serve as a graduate assistant coach under former coach Shannon Miller.

Koizumi grew up in Silver Bay. She retired from professional hockey a year ago to take the job with the Buckeyes, who are coached by former Minnesota Gophers assistant Nadine Muzerall.
