UMD UPDATE
UMD's last nonleague loss was a year ago at top-ranked Mercyhurst, 5-2. The Bulldogs have a 13-2 all-time record versus Hockey East teams, including 3-0 last season against Boston College and New Hampshire. Of UMD's 17 goals this season, 11 have come in the second period. Since rejoining UMD after helping Canada to the 2010 Olympic hockey gold medal, junior C Haley Irwin leads in goal-scoring with five. Sophomore G Jennifer Harss starts today.
CONNECTICUT UPDATE
Connecticut was picked to finish sixth in the eight-team Hockey East in a coaches poll. The Huskies were 21-9-7 last season and reached the Hockey East playoff title game. Senior C Jennifer Chiasson leads in scoring at 2-3-5. Freshman LW Jenny Saxon of Plymouth, Minn., has relatives in Superior and about a dozen are expected to attend the series. Junior G Alexandra Garcia has a .906 save percentage and 3.00 goals against average. Connecticut has lost three straight games.
