Elin Holmlov and Pernilla Winberg scored goals in the third period as the Minnesota Duluth women's hockey team rallied for a 3-2 victory over Minnesota on Friday in the opener of a Western Collegiate Hockey Association series before 989 fans at the DECC.
It's the third-ranked Bulldogs' (6-1 overall, 4-1 WCHA) fifth consecutive win over the sixth-ranked Gophers (5-3, 2-3), including victories in the 2010 WCHA playoff final and the Division I semifinals.
UMD scored first, on a power-play goal by Jessica Wong at 5:11 of the first period, her sixth of the season. That ended a shutout streak going back four games by Minnesota goaltender Noora Raty. Minnesota tied it at the 7:34 mark of the first on a power-play goal by Kelly Seeler, and then went ahead 2-1 on a goal by Sarah Davis with 26 seconds left in the second period.
Holmlov scored 52 seconds into the third to tie the game, and assisted on Winberg's game-winner with 13:55 to play.
