Minnesota Duluth received a verbal commitment Thursday from Chicago-area goaltender Viola "Jojo" Chobak, who will join the program in the fall of 2020.
Chobak, a junior from Glenbrook South High School, recently backstopped the Chicago Young Americans U-19 team to a bronze medal this season at the USA Hockey Girls Tier I championship, posting a 1.77 goals-against average and .950 save percentage in three wins and a loss.
In 15 Junior Women's Hockey League games this season with the Young Americans, she finished with a 1.28 GAA and .943 save percentage.
"Getting the opportunity to play for coach (Maura) Crowell is so amazing," Chobak said in a release from the Young Americans. "That combined with the goalie training coach (Laura) Bellamy brings to the program only makes it even more unbelievable for me."
According to the Young Americans release announcing Chobak's commitment, she will be one of 18 goalies taking part in the 2018 U.S. Women's National Team goaltender development camp.
