College women's hockey: Bulldogs dominate Connecticut

The first meeting between Connecticut and Minnesota Duluth in women's hockey produced a dominant performance by the No. 4-ranked Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon before a crowd of 407 fans at the DECC.

The first meeting between Connecticut and Minnesota Duluth in women's hockey produced a dominant performance by the No. 4-ranked Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon before a crowd of 407 fans at the DECC.

The Bulldogs were recognized with three championship banners from the 2009-10 season before the game and then defeated Connecticut of Hockey East 8-0. Sophomore forward Jessica Wong had three goals to lead UMD (5-1) to its most lopsided victory of the season. Center Haley Irwin and winger Audrey Cournoyer each added a goal and two assists.

Katie Wilson, Laura Fridfinnson and Jamie Kenyon added goals for the UMD women.

Sophomore goalie Jennifer Harss earned a second straight shutout, her seventh in two seasons, and has a 31-8-2 career mark. It was UMD's third shutout victory of the season. The Bulldogs outshot Connecticut 63-9, including 20-1 in the first period.

Connecticut (1-5) has lost four straight games by a combined 23-6.

The teams meet again at 3:07 p.m. today.
