Boston College senior goaltender Katie Burt made 28 saves, including a few key ones late in the game Thursday, as the third-ranked Eagles held off fourth-ranked Minnesota Duluth 4-3 in nonconference play at Conte Forum in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
The Bulldogs (2-1) outshot the Eagles (1-0) 31-26 in the loss and received goals from freshman forward Ashton Bell and senior defenseman Catherine Daoust less than 90 seconds apart during a pair of 5-on-3 power plays midway through the third period to pull within one. Despite a late push in the final minute-plus with its net empty for an extra attacker, UMD couldn't beat Burt.
Freshman forward Naomi Rogge put the Bulldogs up 1-0 a second shy of the 15-minute mark of the first period. Thursday's goals were her and Bell's first at the college level.
Senior goaltender Jessica Convery, making her third straight start, finished with 22 saves on 26 shots. She posted shutouts in her first two starts as a Bulldog last week in a home sweep of Penn State.
The Bulldogs and Eagles wrap up their series at 1 p.m. today in Chestnut Hill.
