Wisconsin-Superior guard Sally Linzmeier was named the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference player of the year on Tuesday, becoming the first player in program history to earn the honor.
Linzmeier, a 5-foot-7 junior from Valders, Wis., led the league in scoring (18.7 ppg) and rebounding (8.8 rpg) as the Yellowjackets (16-12) reached the WIAC tournament title game for the first time.
Linzmeier ranked second in the league in steals (87), sixth in assists (88) and ninth in blocked shots (22). She was also second with an 84.0 free-throw percentage and third with a 45.4 shooting percentage.
Linzmeier's 523 points set a UWS single-season record, and she now ranks fifth on the Yellowjackets' all-time scoring list with 1,211 points, just 90 from breaking Sandy Eilertsen's school record of 1,300. Linzmeier already owns the program record with 242 steals.
"Sally has a relentless desire to get better in every aspect of the game," UWS coach Don Mulhern said in a release. "She is the ultimate gym rat, and this honor from the conference is simply a logical outcome to the hours and effort that Sally puts in."
