College women's basketball: UWS seeks UMAC repeat

Top-seeded Wisconsin-Superior, which is on a 12-game winning streak, hosts fourth-seeded Bethany Lutheran College in a UMAC semifinal at 7:30 p.m. today at Mertz Mortorelli Gym.

The Yellowjackets (21-4) won last year's playoff tournament as well as the regular-season title in their first year of UMAC competition before falling to Wisconsin-Oshkosh 63-53 in the opening round of the NCAA Division III tournament.

The Vikings (13-13) beat Martin Luther College 72-67 in the play-in game Monday. During the regular season, UWS defeated Bethany Lutheran by 16- and 17-point margins. Bethany Lutheran boasts one of the conference's top scorers in Hailey Sandin, who averaged 19.4 points per game this season for the third-best scoring offense in the UMAC. UWS is tops in scoring, led by junior Hailey Kontny (14.3 ppg) and sophomore Hannah Norli (13.4 ppg).

The Yellowjackets have not lost at home since Dec. 30.
