College volleyball: UMD beats Winona State in five-set thriller

Winona led 10-6 and 12-10 in the final set before the Bulldogs rallied. UMD middle blocker Allison Olley was called for an attack error to make it 14-13, but she got another chance, and this time the senior buried it for the final margin.

Olley finished with 15 kills and four blocks while freshman Kate Berg added 17 kills and 13 digs for UMD (16-2 overall, 9-1 NSIC), which won its third straight. Emily Torve had 60 set assists and 10 digs, while Keena Seiffert led the defensive effort with 25 digs.

Danielle Rampart had 19 kills, Lauren Kudronowicz five blocks and Becca Pagel 26 digs to lead the Warriors (13-5, 7-3), who had their five-match winning streak snapped.

• Minnesota-Morris scored the final eight points of the first set and went on to sweep St. Scholastica 25-13, 25-12, 25-16 in UMAC action Friday in Morris.

Marissa Ekness and Morgan Miller each had 10 kills and Layne Hermann had 41 assists for the Cougars (21-6 overall, 11-2 UMAC).

The Saints fell to 9-17 and 6-7.
