College volleyball: Saints finish as UMAC tri-champions

Senior outside hitter Brooke Schermann had nine kills, 10 digs and three blocks to lead St. Scholastica to a 25-14, 25-15, 25-12 victory over Northland in UMAC volleyball Wednesday night in Ashland.

With the victory, the Saints (16-8 overall, 7-1 UMAC) finished tied with Northwestern and Minnesota-Morris for the regular-season conference title.

Sophomore middle blocker Haley Rohwer led St. Scholastica up front with six blocks, senior Espi Austvold paced the offense with 16 set assists while freshman Alcia Draper led the defense with 19 digs.

Dennedi Bernia led all players with 27 digs to lead Northland (9-16, 2-6).

Based on tiebreakers among the league tri-champions, St. Scholastica drew the No. 3 seed and will play at second-seeded Minnesota-Morris in next Wednesday’s UMAC tournament semifinals.
