The Wisconsin-Superior men and St. Scholastica women lead after the opening day of the UMAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Friday in Collegeville, Minn.
The UWS men tallied 129 points, with St. Scholastica a distant second with 59 points. The Yellowjackets set a pair of meet records, with their 3,200-meter relay clocking 8 minutes, 9.36 seconds, bettering the old mark by nearly six seconds, while sophomore Rand Bieri of Cloquet set a new mark in the 400 hurdles in 58.72.
The CSS women look to regain the conference title after finishing second to Minnesota-Morris last year. The Saints earned 102 points, with UWS second at 73. St. Scholastica got individual victories from Sammi Argir (200), Taylor Gibson (800), Natalie St. Marie (hammer throw) and Hannah Russert (long jump).
UWS sophomore Valerie Rowe set a UMAC record by clocking 1:04.50 in the 400 hurdles.
