College track and field: Bulldogs, Saints head to NCAAs

Seven members of the Minnesota Duluth women's indoor track and field team and three members of the men's team will compete in the NCAA Division II Championships on Friday and Saturday in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Seven members of the Minnesota Duluth women's indoor track and field team and three members of the men's team will compete in the NCAA Division II Championships on Friday and Saturday in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Freshman Samantha Rivard, an All-American in cross country, will compete in the mile (ranked fourth in Division II), 3,000 meters (ranked sixth) and in the distance medley relay with juniors Amelia Maher and Victoria Zoller and sophomore Hannah Olson. Maher also competes in the pentathlon and Olson in the mile.

Freshman Breanna Colbenson will run the 3,000 and 5,000, while sophomore Kayla Wiltrout qualified in the pole vault.

On the men's side, Cole Toepfer will compete in the mile and in the distance medley relay with fellow senior Tyler Stevens and juniors Phil d'Entremont and Chris Wilson.

  • The last time St. Scholastica senior Chelsea Johnson ran in an NCAA meet, she captured the Division III cross country title to give the Saints their first individual championship in any sport. Now Johnson will run in the 5,000 meters Friday night in the national indoor meet at Lincoln, Neb. Others Saints competing in the meet are Becky Huberty (shot put and weight throw) and Nicole Christianson (high jump).
