Wisconsin-Superior beat Edgewood 7-0 and then edged Concordia (Wis.) 5-4 in dramatic fashion during tournament action Saturday at the Superior Dome in Marquette, Mich.
Senior pitcher Nicolle Gross of Coleraine shut down Edgewood (0-2) in the opener, scattering three hits while striking out four. Katie Wilke and Anna Morgan had two hits and two RBIs apiece to lead the offense, including a home run by Morgan.
Elle Niemela's RBI triple in the top of the seventh inning sparked a two-run rally that lifted the Yellowjackets to the victory over Concordia. Niemela finished 2-for-3 with a walk. Kristen Haider had three hits, including a solo home run, and two runs to lead UWS (3-3), while freshman pitcher Sarah Hendrickson of Duluth Denfeld went the distance to earn the win.
Jennifer Reicher had two hits, a run and two RBIs to lead the Falcons (0-2).
