Tufts University scored four runs in the fifth inning to beat Wisconsin-Superior 4-1 on Wednesday in Clermont, Fla., completing a rough day for the Yellowjackets.
Maggie Cragg was 2-for-3 and Katie White drove in the lone run for UWS (4-10), which had just five hits off Tufts starting pitcher Kristi Van Meter. UWS starter Macy Hanson allowed just six hits and struck out four.
Earlier Wednesday, the University of Northwestern Ohio blasted UWS 20-1, scoring four runs in the first inning, nine more in the second and six in the third. Malorrie Huber's bases-clearing double provided all the offense needed, while UWS totaled just four hits off three pitchers.
