Minnesota Duluth and Minot State combined for 24 runs and 44 hits as the NSIC rivals split a doubleheader at Malosky Stadium on Sunday.
The Bulldogs won the opener 5-4 before the Beavers responded with a 9-6 triumph to put an end to UMD's five-game winning streak.
Minot State (10-9 overall, 2-4 NSIC) overcame a 4-1 deficit in the opener by scoring three runs in the top of the seventh. The Bulldogs loaded the bases on three straight hits in the bottom half of the inning, setting the table for freshman Ashley Taipale of Duluth who delivered a game-winning single. Sophomore first baseman Kalynn Tilton had three hits for UMD (21-9, 5-1) and pitcher Valerie Hohol improved to 7-0 on the season.
In the rematch, Minot State used a six-run fifth inning to put the Bulldogs away. UMD, trailing 9-0 entering its final at-bat, rallied for six runs including two home runs. Tilton finished the weekend with six hits and nine RBIs.
