The Rilee Dawson era at St. Scholastica began with two wins Saturday, followed by two losses on Sunday at the Rochester Dome Tournament in Rochester, Minn.
Dawson, a native of Eveleth, took over the Saints program this summer after Jen Walter left to become head coach at Minnesota Duluth. Dawson was an assistant under Walter for eight seasons and Saturday she picked up her first win as CSS head coach via a 7-0 rout of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Six of the seven runs came in the fourth inning. Maggie Schley finished 3-for-3 with three RBIs and Rendi Johnson was 2-for-4. Chrisi Mizera gave up four hits and struckout four batters for the shutout.
In a 5-4 win over Coe College, Schley drove in the tying and winning run in the top of the fifth inning with a two-out, two-RBI double. Micah McGuiness went 4-for-4 against Coe while Kara Warren was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored.
On Sunday, the Saints lost 10-4 to Wisconsin-La Crosse and 1-0 to Buena Vista. Alexa Bremer went 3-for-4 with two RBIs to lead the Saints against La Crosse and Vanessa Kohl struckout out a career-high eight batters in the loss to Buena Vista.
