Bemidji State swept Minnesota Duluth in an NSIC doubleheader Tuesday at Junction Avenue Field, largely due to the stellar efforts of senior pitcher Jessica Yost.
Yost handed the Bulldogs (33-17 overall, 17-9 NSIC) their ninth shutout loss of the season in the opener, striking out 14 while allowing only four hits in a 5-0, complete-game victory. The senior hurler added 10 more strikeouts and give up just five hits in the second game, a 5-1 win for the Beavers (24-15, 14-10), Yost's 21st win of the season.
Brooke Phillips provided the Beavers offense, driving in two runs on a double in the third inning before adding a two-run home run in the fifth. UMD's Valerie Hohol allowed five runs on eight hits in 3 1/3 innings to take the loss.
After the Beavers opened the nightcap with a two-run first inning, UMD's Natalie Wright hit a leadoff homer in the bottom half of the inning.
Sam Hartmann allowed four runs while matching a season-low three innings pitched in the Bulldogs' season home finale. Yost recorded three hits, including an RBI double in the first, and allowed only five.
