College soccer: UWS men win UMAC title

A pair of second-half goals from Elliot Chapman on Saturday helped the Wisconsin-Superior men's soccer team defeat North Central 2-0 at NBC Spartan Sports Complex, extend its winning streak to 10 games and claim the UMAC's regular-season championship.

Chapman scored 10 minutes apart and Dalton VonKaenel made two saves for the shutout as UWS (14-2-1 overall, 9-0-1 UMAC) celebrated senior day by remaining unbeaten in its past 15 games.

• Luke Buckton's 11th goal of the season proved to be the game-winner as St. Scholastica defeated Crown 3-1 in a UMAC men's game at Saints Field.

Armin Bobaric started the scoring in the fourth minute and Darby Henderson closed it in the 85th for the Saints (7-7-2, 6-2-1), who swept the season series from the Storm (5-12-1, 5-6).

Buckton became the sixth player in program history to notch 40 goals and 30 assists in a career.

• The St. Scholastica women won their fifth in a row, blanking Crown 3-0 in a UMAC game at Saints Field.

Morgan Friday, Becca Rancour and Kaiya Quam found the back of the net for the Saints (10-4-2, 8-0-1), who are alone atop the conference standings. St. Scholastica goalkeeper Roni Rudolph of Duluth stopped one shot for her 11th shutout of the season, one away from the program's single-season record.

• Amanda Opalinski, Claire Smith and Annah Schussman had goals for the Wisconsin-Superior women's team, which rolled past North Central 3-0 in a UMAC contest at NBC Spartan Sports Complex.

UWS keeper Madison Gutekunst finished with four saves for the shutout. The Yellowjackets (6-10-1, 5-5) have won three of four.
