College soccer: UWS men, CSS women earn wins

Pontus Tavemark scored the game’s only goal as the Wisconsin-Superior men’s soccer team defeated St. Scholastica 1-0 in the Bridge Rival match on Wednesday at Saints Field in Duluth.

Tavemark broke a scoreless tie with a goal in the 59th minute on an assist from Blake Perry on a corner kick.

UWS outshot the Saints 17-6 and the Yellowjackets goalkeeper Dalton VonKaenel was forced to make just one save. CSS goalkeeper Corey Bulheller saved six shots.

College women’s soccer

CSS 2, River Falls 0

St. Scholastica first-year players Brea Archer and Brooke Harvey scored goals as the Saints defeated Wisconsin-River Falls 2-0 on Wednesday in River Falls.

Archer opened the scoring with her second goal of the season on an assist from Morgan Friday in the 10th minute.

River Falls outshot CSS 7-1 in the second half but the Saints made their one attempt count. Harvery connected on her first collegiate goal for a 2-0 lead on an assist from Sidney Botker in the 82nd minute.

CSS goalkeeper Alexa Gothard, who also got an assist on Harvey’s goal, stopped eight River Falls shots.
