St. Scholastica men in second at NCAA regional
Freshman Paul Schommer finished second in the 10-kilometer freestyle race Friday, leading St. Scholastica to move into second place after the first day of the NCAA Central Regional Championships in Ishpeming, Mich.
Northern Michigan, with four skiers in the top five, is in first place with 85 points. Erik Sodermann won the 10K in 24 minutes, 30.5 seconds, while Schommer came in at 25:22.3. St. Scholastica's Jeremy Hecker was eighth and earned all-region honors along with Schommer.
The meet concludes with the 15K classic race today.
-- Freshman Sharmila Ahmed finished eighth in the 5K freestyle as St. Scholastica skied to fourth in the women's regional championships at Ishpeming. Northern Michigan has 85 points, 30 more than the Saints.
