College Nordic skiing: Saints compete in Gitchi Gami Games

Schwinghamer, Whitaker pace St. Scholastica men and women.

St. Scholastica junior John Schwinghamer led the men's Nordic ski team for the second straight day with a 12th-place finish in Sunday's 10-kilometer freestyle race at the Gitchi Gami Games in Cable, Wisconsin.

Schwinghamer, who finished seventh among Central Collegiate Ski Association skiers in Saturday's 15km classic race, was timed in 24 minutes, 4 seconds. The Saints finished third behind Northern Michigan and Michigan Tech in the men’s event.

Maggie Whitaker placed 11th (14:46) among CSSA skiers to lead the CSS women, who also placed third behind Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan.

The event marked the first for any St. Scholastica sport since March 7.
