College Nordic skiing: Saints compete in CCSA races Sunday

St. Scholastica's Nick Matelich placed third in a Central Collegiate Ski Association 20-kilometer classic race on Sunday in Houghton, Michigan.

Matelich finished in 1:02:03 for his second podium finish this season. CSS' Tamer Mische-Richter placed 11th in 1:03.10, and Ryan Steger placed 15th in 1:04.18.

Northern Michigan placed first with 100 points and the Wildcats' Mathias Rolid won individually in 1:00:47. Michigan Tech was second with 89 points and the Saints were third with 79 points.

In Sunday's women's 15-kilometer race Mae Barnes was 13th overall in 56:50.9 and Emma Stertz was 14th in 56:51.9.

Northern Michigan placed first with 103 points and NMU's Malin Boerjesjoe won the individual crown in51:29. Michigan Tech was second with 95 points and CSS was third with 66 points.


The Saints are back in Michigan next week for the NCAA Central Region Championships.
