College nordic skiing: CSS opens season in Houghton

St. Scholastica’s Kelsey Dickinson placed third at the U.P. Opener in Houghton, Mich., on Sunday.
Dickinson was timed in 17 minutes, 21 seconds for the 5-kilometer classic event. Northern Michigan skiers went 1-2 in the season-opening event that had been moved from Ishpeming, Mich., due to a lack of snow in the area.
The Saints’ Ellie Evans was eighth overall in 18:05.
r In the men’s race, St. Scholastica’s Reitler Hodgert was fourth in the 10K classic race in 29:42, well off the the pace of a Northern Michigan trio that took the top three spots. Adam Martin was victorious in 28:32.
The meet marked the debut of Maria Stuber as the Saints’ men’s and women’s Nordic ski coach.
