Minnesota Duluth junior defenseman Scott Perunovich of Hibbing was named the 2020 Jim Johannson College Player of the Year, USA Hockey announced Friday.

The award is presented annually to the top American player in NCAA Division I men’s hockey.

Perunovich earlier became UMD’s sixth winner of the Hobey Baker Memorial Award.

Perunovich, who is a three-time American Hockey Coaches Association All-American, had six goals and 34 assists for 40 points during the shortened 2019-20 season. His 34 assists topped all NCAA defensemen and he was second in points among blueliners.

He tied for the national lead in power-play points (22) and assists (19).

Perunovich was selected 45th overall by the St. Louis Blues in the 2018 NHL draft and agreed to a two-year, entry-level contract with the team in March.

The USA Hockey Foundation contributed $5,000 to the Hibbing-Chisholm Youth Hockey Association, which Pernuovich designated as his choice.
