Minnesota Duluth free agent sophomore defenseman Chris Casto of Stillwater, Minn., indicated on Twitter on Monday night that he is leaving the Minnesota Duluth program.
It is believed he has signed an entry-level contract with the Boston Bruins, meaning he forgoes his final two years of college eligibility.
Casto wrote on Twitter: "I would like to thank my teammates, the Bulldogs organization, and Duluth for my time here. It has truly been an honor to be a Bulldog."
Casto, 21, a 2010 Hill-Murray High School graduate, who is 6-foot-3 and 210 pounds, attended Boston's development camp last July. He's played in 77 games at UMD with five goals and 17 assists for 22 points. In 2012-13 he had three goals and six assists for nine points in 36 games. UMD's season ended March 16 in the first round of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association playoffs at Wisconsin.
Casto told the Boston Bruins web site in July during the development camp: "[I want to] get stronger and faster. But, also just my overall concept of the game within my head, become smarter and quicker with my decisions."
