Another pair of brothers will be skating for Minnesota Duluth in the near future.

Jackson Cates, the older brother of current UMD recruit Noah Cates, verbally committed to the Bulldogs on Thursday night. The elder Cates had previously been committed to Michigan Tech, having signed a National Letter of Intent back in November to play for the Huskies in 2017-18.

Jackson Cates, a forward who turns 20 at the end of September, graduated from Stillwater High School in 2016, finishing with 27 goals and 34 assists his senior year, when the Ponies lost the third-place game in the Class AA state tournament to Grand Rapids.

Jackson Cates posted 13 goals and 11 assists in 64 games a year ago playing for the Waterloo Blackhawks of the USHL. He still has a year of junior eligibility remaining.

Noah Cates, a year behind Jackson in school, committed to the Bulldogs last summer. He was drafted this spring in the fifth round by the Philadelphia Flyers. He'll play for the USHL's Omaha Lancers this upcoming season before joining Jackson in Duluth.
