UMD update
The Bulldogs open the regular season as defending Division I champions after placing fourth in the WCHA in 2010-11. Senior C Jack Connolly is the top returning scorer in Division I with 59 points. He has 137 points in 125 career games and ranks No. 27 in UMD career scoring. Senior G Kenny Reiter, who started last season's final 10 games, will start today. UMD is reporting no injuries. The Bulldogs were 5-4-2 at Amsoil Arena last season.

The Fighting Irish of South Bend, Ind., were picked by coaches and media to win the Central Collegiate Hockey Association regular-season title. Notre Dame has nine of top 12 scorers from last season returning, including sophomore C T.J. Tynan (23-31--54) and sophomore LW Anders Lee of Edina, Minn. (24-20--44). Junior G Mike Johnson was .904 and 2.62 last season. Notre Dame has scoring power and is young on defense.
