College men's basketball: Yellowjackets win border battle

Wisconsin-Superior built as much as a 19-point lead in the second half over St. Scholastica and then hung on to defeat its neighbor from across the harbor, 83-79, in a nonconference game Sunday at Reif Gym.

Wisconsin-Superior built as much as a 19-point lead in the second half over St. Scholastica and then hung on to defeat its neighbor from across the harbor, 83-79, in a nonconference game Sunday at Reif Gym.
The Yellowjackets jumped to an early 7-0 lead and never trailed in winning its season opener.
Ty Ketz led the way with 26 points on 8-for-16 shooting from the field, including 4-for-9 from 3-point range, and Johnquez Brooks added 17 points.
St. Scholastica (0-2) fell behind 69-50 when Ketz drained a 3-point shot with just over eight minutes remaining in the game. But the Saints went on a 19-6 run to trim the deficit to six at 77-71 with 1:52 left. The scoring run was fueled by 3-pointers from Jake Naslund of Barnum and Marc Peterson of Esko.
LaMonte Hall hit another 3-pointer to cut the gap to 81-76 but a pair of free throws sealed the win.
Naslund led the Saints with 19 points on 7-for-9 shooting.
