Providence countered Minnesota Duluth's third-period power-play goal with one of its own and the teams played through a scoreless overtime in a 2-2 college men's hockey nonconference tie tonight before 1,507 fans at Schneider Arena in Providence, R.I.
Matt Bergland scored his first goal of the season 17:39 into the third period to tie the game. UMD's Mike Seidel netted his fifth goal of the season on a power play at 15:03.
Goaltenders Kenny Reiter of UMD and Alex Beaudry of Providence were kept busy with 31 and 32 saves, respectively.
UMD's Justin Crandall opened the scoring with his second goal at 12:18 of the second period, a lead that stood until the Friars (2-1-1) equalized on Damian Cross' first goal at 7:09 of the third.
The 15th-ranked Bulldogs (2-3-1) won 5-3 Friday night to claim the series and snap a three-game losing streak.
