College hockey: Saints men, women picked third in NCHA

The St. Scholastica men's and women's hockey teams were ranked third in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association preseason coaches' polls released Wednesday.

The St. Scholastica men's and women's hockey teams were ranked third in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association preseason coaches' polls released Wednesday.

The Saints men are coming off a 13-13-1 season and fell to St. Norbert College in the Harris Cup semifinals.

Adrian and St. Norbert earned the 1-2 spots in the men's poll.

CSS has to replace three of its top four scorers from a season ago, but returns Brett Radford as well as All-NCHA defenseman Mark Whiteley.

The Saints women finished third in the conference last season and lost to Lake Forest College in the Slaats Cup semifinals.

CSS returns 11 of the top 12 scorers and its goaltender but must replace last season's leading point scorer Sierra Hanowski.

Both teams open the season Oct. 27.
