College hockey: Saints men fall in final seconds

Adam Fauchoux scored for the Falcons (11-7-1 overall, 8-5-1 NCHA) with 22 seconds remaining to force overtime. The Saints held a 2-1 lead going into the third period, after fellow freshmen Mike Noland and Nolan Ross each scored in the second period, sandwiching Concordia forward Eric Therrien's tally at the 8:33 mark.

Freshman goaltender Zane Steeves made 35 saves for the Saints (11-8-1, 9-5-1), while Jack Romanuik made 15 saves for the Falcons.

Falcons goaltender Zach Quinn made 29 saves for the WIAC win at Wessman Arena.

Kyle Miller stopped 28 shots for the Yellowjackets (7-14-1 overall, 1-4 WIAC), who were shutout for the fifth time this season.

Mike Fazio opened the scoring for River Falls (12-10-1, 3-3) with a goal at 10:51 of the opening period, while Aussie Miller picked up an insurance goal at 14:20 of the third period.

Both teams finished 0-for-4 on power plays.

COLLEGE WOMEN

Adrian 5, St. Scholastica 1

The Bulldogs scored twice in the first and third periods to remain undefeated in NCHA play at Mars Lakeview Arena.

Brooke Lupi scored twice for third-ranked Adrian (18-2-0 overall, 15-0-0 NCHA), including the game's first goal at 8:04 of the opening period. Sierra Hanowski scored the lone goal for CSS midway through the second period, soon after Lupi made it 3-0. The Bulldogs pulled away with a pair of goals in the final six minutes.

Lexi Thomeczek made 39 saves for the Saints (10-7-2, 7-4-2), while Jade Walsh stopped 23 shots for Adrian.

Wis.-Superior 5, Northland 1

Hailey Adair scored twice and Mandy Tomlinson picked up three assists as the Yellowjackets snapped a six-game losing streak with the nonconference win in Ashland.

UWS (7-13) took a 2-0 lead in the first 12 minutes, before Allyson Reilly put the Lumberjills on the board early in the second period. The Yellowjackets then scored three unanswered goals.

Kim Kobar made 21 saves for the Yellowjackets, while Chloe Marshall stopped 48 shots for Northland (4-17).
