Minnesota Duluth senior captain and forward Ashleigh Brykaliuk helped set up both her team’s goals Saturday in a 2-1 WCHA victory over North Dakota at Ralph Engelstad Arena in Grand Forks, N.D.
Brykaliuk assisted senior wing Lara Stalder on the first goal of the game 7:32 into the first period to give third-ranked UMD (7-2-2 overall, 6-2-1-1 WCHA) a 1-0 lead. Brykaliuk was at it again 34 seconds later as she and Stalder assisted redshirt junior center Katerina Mrazova with her second goal of the season to put the Fighting Hawks (6-4-1, 5-4) down 2-0.
Sophomore goaltender Maddie Rooney would take care of things from there making 24 saves on 25 shots. The Hawks’ Halli Krzyzaniak finally beat Rooney midway through the third period with assists from Amy Menke and Ryleigh Houston.
Lexie Shaw, the Hawks’ longtime backup-turned-starting goalie, made 19 saves.
