Wisconsin-Superior's underclassmen pitchers propelled the Yellowjackets to a two-game nonconference sweep of Finlandia Saturday in Superior.
In the first game, the Yellowjackets (7-15) used an 11-run fourth inning to claim a 13-3 victory. UWS senior Greg Pitts recorded two hits, runs and RBIs, while teammate Cory Albertson went 2-for-3 with a home run and three runs scored. Fellow first-year pitchers Albertson and Austin Miller combined to hold the Lions (4-10) to three runs in the game, with Miller earning the win after allowing two earned runs and six hits over six innings.
UWS overcame four errors to defeat Finlandia 9-5 in the second game.
Yellowjacket sophomore Trevor Roszczewski allowed a pair of earned runs over four innings of work, before freshman Elliot Danhoff earned his first save with three innings of relief, allowing a run on two hits.
Travis Miller and Nik Mattson each homered in the second inning to take a 2-1 lead, before UWS added six runs in the third inning. Miller and Mattson each finished with two hits, two runs scored and at least two RBIs.
