College baseball: UMD splits with Upper Iowa

UMD lost 15-4 in a shortened eight-inning second game.

Danielson's two-run double gave the Bulldogs (11-11) a 2-1 lead and then Midas keyed a four-run fourth with a two-RBI double to make it 6-1.

Thomas Bruchu replaced starter Rece Dietrich in the sixth to earn the save.

UMD used seven pitchers in the nightcap but was pounded for 18 hits, including seven for extra bases. Emmett Kulick (3-for-5, two RBIs) and Callahan Seehase (4-for-5, four RBIs) each hit home runs for the Peacocks (8-11).

Chris Saltzmann had three hits, including a homer, and three RBIs for the Bulldogs.

• UMD set a program record with eight stolen bases in a 7-3 NSIC victory over Upper Iowa, completing a doubleheader sweep Thursday in Mauston. Freshman second baseman Anders Brown led the thievery with three stolen bases, tying a program mark. UMD junior pitcher Alex Ferguson struck out a career-high eight batters, including back-to-back whiffs with the bases loaded to end the fifth inning.
