Despite strong pitching by the Minnesota Duluth staff, host Wayne (Neb.) State squeaked out a 2-1 victory to sweep an NSIC doubleheader Saturday.
Mitchell Waletzki, Liam Blaschko and Sean Flaherty combined on a six-hitter for UMD (4-10 overall, 2-4 NSIC), but the Bulldogs only managed four hits off Wildcats starter Hunter Wienhoff and two relievers.
Wayne State (12-7, 3-3) won the opener 8-3 as Kyle Thompson drove in two runs on three hits.
Leadoff hitter Henry George paced the Bulldogs by going 3-for-3 and scoring twice. Drew Stewart added two hits and two RBIs.

The Pipers (6-7) stroked 17 hits and scored four runs in each of the first and seventh innings off four UWS pitchers.
The Yellowjackets (4-6) totaled 15 hits, three by Nick Fredrikson and two each by Jordan Berrios, Matthew Boyde and Alec Rabin. Travis Miller drove in four runs, three on a bases-loaded double in the seventh.
