College baseball: St. Scholastica splits with La Crosse

St. Scholastica edged Wisconsin-La Crosse 3-2 before falling 7-3 in the rematch of a nonconference doubleheader on Thursday at the Metrodome in Minneapolis.

St. Scholastica edged Wisconsin-La Crosse 3-2 before falling 7-3 in the rematch of a nonconference doubleheader on Thursday at the Metrodome in Minneapolis.

Jake Casareto of International Falls had two runs as St. Scholastica built a 3-0 lead in the opener and then held on despite committing three errors. Kyle Jensen earned the pitching win while Thomas Rogers of Cloquet secured the victory with his fifth save of the season.

In the second game, St. Scholastica (9-4) jumped to an early 2-0 lead on Kyle Flagstad's two-run double before the Eagles (7-5) came back with two runs in the sixth and seventh innings and three insurance runs in the top of the ninth. The Saints struck out 11 times.
