St. Scholastica saw its winning streak end at eight games, but the Saints also picked up another win over a top-flight opponent in a regular season-ending doubleheader split with St. Thomas on Sunday in St. Paul.
Back-to-back run-scoring singles from Tim Munn and Trevor Bernsdorf in the second inning provided St. Scholastica all the offense it needed in the first game as Martin Alcoverde and Isaac Rocha combined to scatter seven hits and strike out nine over seven innings in a 2-1 victory.
The back end of the nonconference double-dip didn't go quite as well. The Tommies (25-14), who are ranked third in the Midwest Region, one spot ahead of the Saints, sprinted to a 9-0 lead in Game 2 and rolled to a 13-6 win. St. Scholastica's Brian Minks homered and had three RBIs in defeat.
The Saints (29-8), ranked 25th in Division III, are off until the start of the UMAC tournament Thursday at Wade Stadium.
