College baseball: Saints play Vikings for UMAC title at Wade Stadium

St. Scholastica and Bethany Lutheran will meet at 1 p.m. today at Wade Stadium in Duluth for the UMAC Championship after the Saints dispatched the Vikings in the semifinals 10-1 on Friday.

Should the Saints lose the first game, a second will be played between the two schools at 4 p.m. for the UMAC crown.

The Saints jumped out to a 3-0 lead over Bethany Lutheran after just one inning on Friday. Steven Neutzling led the way at the plate going 3-for-5. Tyler Duex was 2-for-3 with a triple while

Riley Bernsdorf and Eric Pearson both finished the day 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Pearson also had a double and an RBI.

Martin Alcoverde picked up on the win on the mound for the Saints after giving up the one earned run off seven hits and a walk. He struck out six batters in six innings of work.

The Vikings earned a rematch with the Saints in the double elimination tournament via a 8-6 win over Wisconsin-Superior. It was the second elimination game of the day for the Yellowjackets, who held off Minnesota Morris earlier in the day 12-11.
