Leadoff hitter Riley Johnson had a combined three hits, two runs and two RBIs and defending NCAA Division II champion Augustana used good starting pitching Thursday in a 9-3 and 6-1 NSIC sweep of Minnesota Duluth at Karras Park in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Seth Miller (3-1) pitched seven solid innings to earn the win in the opener, allowing five hits and three runs, while Johnson, former Duluth Huskies utility man Sam Baier and Will Olson each had two RBIs. McCale Peterson accounted for all of Duluth's runs with a three-run homer in the seventh.
Jed Schmidt (1-1) allowed four hits and one run in 5 1/3 innings to lead Augustana (12-5 overall, 5-0 NSIC) in the rematch, while Ryan Nickel had a home run and triple to spark the offense. UMD (4-9, 2-3) scored its only run when Eric Yachinich doubled in Peterson in the second.
