A strikeout from closer Colin Baumgard in the top of the ninth kept Minnesota Duluth's season alive for at least a couple more hours as the Bulldogs scored a 3-2 victory over Concordia-St. Paul in an elimination game Thursday at the NSIC tournament in St. Cloud.
UMD played a second elimination game late Thursday against Wayne State, which was not completed by press time.
Baumgard came on in the top of the ninth with one out and runners on first and second. He struck out the first batter he faced, then walked the next on four straight balls to load the bases. Baumgard struck out the final Concordia batter swinging on a 3-2 pitch for the save.
UMD designated hitter Tyler Midas hit a two-run homer to right center field in the fourth inning. The Bulldogs scored the winning run in the eighth via a throwing error.
The winner of UMD-Wayne State on Thursday night plays the winner of Minot State and Augustana at 3:30 p.m. today in an elimination game.
