Minnesota Twins fans who stayed up late Thursday night to watch the St. Louis Cardinals' dramatic 10-9 comeback win over the Texas Rangers in Game 6 of the World Series may have experienced a bit of deja vu.
The TV call of Fox's Joe Buck, of David Freese's game-winning home run in the bottom of the 11th inning at Busch Stadium - "we will see you... tomorrow night" - was the same as the call made by his late father, Joe Buck, on CBS when the Twins' Kirby Puckett hit the game-winning home run in the bottom of the 11th of Game 6 of the 1991 World Series against the Atlanta Braves at the Metrodome (see video below for a comparison of the two calls).
Freese and Puckett both were the leadoff batters in the bottom of the 11th when they hit the winning home run in their respective games. And Freese hit his home run just a day after the 20th anniversary of Puckett's memorable shot.
In addition, longtime baseball color commentator Tim McCarver was sharing the broadcast booth both times - calling the game alongside Joe Buck last night, and with Jack Buck in 1991.
Twenty years ago, the Twins went on to win Game 7 and their second World Series title in an epic pitching duel between Minnesota's Jack Morris and Atlanta's John Smoltz. Game 7 for the Cardinals and Rangers starts at 7:05 p.m. tonight.
