The Duluth-Superior Chargers improved to 11-0 on the season with a pair of victories over the weekend.
The second-ranked Chargers downed fifth-ranked Montiquois 11-7 on Friday as Dan O'Connell and Brody Carlson had two goals apiece and freshman Bryce Holak added a goal and three assists. August Cadotte added four ground balls and forced two turnovers, Seamus Mackinaw forced four turnovers and T.J. Vallie had 15 saves.
On Saturday, the Chargers beat seventh-ranked Northfield 8-7 in overtime as Holak scored the game winner at 3:22 in the extra session with a 25-foot shot. Vallie had seven saves and Mike Nowicki had four ground balls.
The Chargers completed the first undefeated season in the history of Duluth lacrosse, winning the Northern Division. They will be the No. 2 seed in the playoffs and host a first-round playoff game against Providence Academy at a date to be determined.
Five Chargers finished in the top 20 in the Minnesota Boys Scholastic Lacrosse Association in scoring: Brody Carlson (No. 5), Cooper Carlson (No. 9), Dan O'Connell (No. 11), Jesse Larson (No. 12) and Bryce Holak (No. 13), who was also fourth in assists. Vallie was first in save percentage (.786), shutouts (three) and wins (11), while the Chargers' defense led the league in goals-against average (2.42).
