Boaters beware: Voyageurs National Park staff last week started pulling navigation and hazard buoys off lakes within the park, such as Rainy, Kabetogama and Namakan, for the season. The buoys will be back next spring.
Meanwhile Voyageurs officials feel they need to remind hunters that hunting and trapping of any type or manner is prohibited on federal land and all waters within the boundary of Voyageurs National Park. Park rangers enforce hunting and trapping laws under Federal regulations. These regulations carry a maximum penalty up to $10,000 and/or 6-months in jail for misdemeanor violations and $20,000 and/or 5-years in jail with forfeiture of hunting equipment for felony violations.
While hunting is allowed on a very few National Park Service properties, it is banned in nearly all national parks.
