Bulldog Insider Podcast: Sitting down with new Bulldogs AD Forrest Karr
New University of Minnesota Duluth athletic director Forrest Karr joins the Bulldog Insider Podcast this week to discuss the future of NCAA athletics and that little controversy over a new mascot costume.
New Minnesota Duluth athletic director Forrest Karr had been on the job for less than a week when he got hit with his first controversy as head of Bulldogs athletics. Fans were mad about the new Champ costume, and they let the athletic department hear about it .
Luckily, Karr has plenty of experience when it comes to rebranding in college athletics, having gone through the process at both Northern Michigan and Alaska. A more inclusive process to update the Champ costume is now in the works .
Now Karr can focus on more pressing issues facing UMD athletics, specifically it's NCAA Division I men's and women's hockey programs. The NCAA is in the midst of a historic transformation, one that could result in major changes to how college hockey operates in the future. The transfer portal has already created an atmosphere that resembles free agency during the offseason. But what is next?
Karr shares his thoughts on the future of NCAA athletics with the Bulldog Insider Podcast this week, and how a school like UMD could be impacted. They also touch on the Champ costume controversy.
