FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Delmon Young and the Minnesota Twins have agreed to terms on a $1,152,000, one-year contract.
Young gets a raise from the $700,000 he made last season, but his salary is technically being cut the maximum allowable 20 percent when the final prorated share of his initial $3.7 million signing bonus ($770,000) is factored in.
Red Wings beat Wild
DETROIT -- Jiri Hudler and Kris Draper scored in a 50-second span of the second period, and Chris Osgood made 21 saves in the Detroit Red Wings' 4-2 victory over the Minnesota Wild on Thursday night.
Mikael Samuelsson and Ville Leino also scored to help Detroit win its sixth straight. Brent Burns and Mikko Koivu scored for Minnesota, and Josh Harding made 39 saves.

Daytona spots for Gordon, Busch
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Kyle Busch won the second Daytona 500 qualifying race, holding off Mark Martin in a frantic push to the finish.
Busch will now start in the second row of Sunday's season-opening race. Jeff Gordon earned the other spot by winning the first of Thursday's twin 150-mile races.
Four spots were up for grabs to cars not otherwise qualified for NASCAR's biggest event of the year. Those went to Jeremy Mayfield, AJ Allmendinger, Scott Riggs and Regan Smith.
Selig says A-Rod has shamed the game
TAMPA, Fla. -- Bud Selig says Alex Rodriguez has "shamed the game," though the baseball commissioner indicated no plans to punish the three-time AL MVP.
"I am saddened by the revelations," Selig said in a statement issued Thursday, four days after Rodriguez admitted he used unspecified drugs from 2001-03 while playing for the Texas Rangers. "What Alex did was wrong, and he will have to live with the damage he has done to his name and reputation."
Players and owners didn't agree to a joint drug program until August 2002, and testing with punishment didn't start until 2004.

Baylor claims discrimination
BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. -- Elgin Baylor is taking his game to a different court. Baylor, 74, has filed a discrimination lawsuit against the Los Angeles Clippers and the NBA.
Baylor, a member of basketball's Hall of Fame, served as the Clippers general manager for 22 years and was a player for 14 seasons. Baylor alleges race and age discrimination against the Clippers, owner Don Sterling, club president Andy Roeser and the NBA.
Sliced thumb hurting Vonn
VAL D'ISERE, France -- Injured American skier Lindsey Vonn missed Thursday's slalom, won by Kathrin Hoelzl of Germany. Vonn spent the day on the slopes, but she was just trying out a specially designed splint for her injured thumb in hopes of racing in Saturday's slalom.
College star wins suit against NCAA
SANDUSKY, Ohio -- A judge in Ohio ruled in favor of an Oklahoma State pitcher who challenged NCAA rules preventing college baseball players from hiring advisers who can contact major league clubs.
Andrew Oliver filed the suit after he was deemed ineligible hours before he was scheduled to play a tournament game last year. Oliver argued that the NCAA shouldn't restrict a player's right to have legal help when negotiating a big league contract.

Providence fan out of jail
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Jonathan Xavier, the brother of a Providence basketball player who ran onto the court to confront a referee, has been released from jail after 16 days behind bars. Xavier broke the terms of his probation on drug charges by rushing onto the court during a game Jan. 16 against Marquette. He was upset that no foul was called after his brother, Jeff Xavier, was hit in the face by a defender's arm while driving to the basket.
