Bowling: Superior takes two in women’s All-Star Challenge

After 41st annual meeting, Superior bowlers pull ahead in all-time series 21-20

Ingrid Vendela recorded a 762 series and Lezlee Nelson rolled a 672 to lead the Superior All-Stars to a 13-pin victory over the Duluth All-Stars in the 41st annual Duluth-Superior Women’s All-Star Bowling Challenge on Sunday at Country Lanes North in Duluth.

Superior defeated Duluth 3,112 to 3,099. With the win Superior takes the overall lead in the series 21-20.

Superior’s Julie Meysman, the other bowler who played three games, finished with a 556.

Duluth was led by Nicole Mattson's 648. Theresa Johnson rolled a 629 and Crystal Johnson finished at 628.

The Superior Senior All-Stars also claimed victory on Sunday in the 11th annual senior event.


Superior compiled 2,779 pins to Duluth’s 2,594. Superior closed the gap in the series, which Duluth now leads 6-5.

Superior’s Barb Hoag rolled a 666, Lois Oakman had a 578 and Robin Anderson a 538.

Duluth’s Julee McRae led the squad with a 598. Elaine Haglund rolled a 529 and Denise Hanson finished with a 500.
