Thunder Bay had a combined 32 hits en route to an 8-4 and 12-6 Northwoods League sweep over the Duluth Huskies on Tuesday at Wade Stadium.
Jordan Serena led the way for the Border Cats (11-18), going a combined 7-for-11 with two runs and three RBIs, while Christian Correa added five hits, three runs and three RBIs.
Starting pitchers Charles Thielmann and Ben Allison were solid in recording wins for Thunder Bay, allowing just two earned runs over nearly 13 combined innings. By the time the Huskies mounted a late comeback in the ninth inning of the second game, it was too late.
Keach Ballard and Alex Michaels had three hits apiece to lead the Huskies (8-22).
The teams finish their three-game series at 6:35 p.m. today at Wade Stadium. The Huskies then host Waterloo at 6:35 p.m. Thursday as part of Daddy Daughter Date Night, with special activities planned for fathers who bring their daughters to the ballpark.
