Sophomore forward Austin Andrews scored a career-high 32 points and had 10 rebounds as Minnesota Duluth stayed unbeaten with an 86-69 victory over St. Cloud State in their NSIC men’s basketball opener Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2021, before 642 at Romano Gym.

UMD also got great balance and production from Drew Blair (16 points), Jack Middleton (15), Charlie Katona (13) and Joshua Brown (10) as the Bulldogs’ starting unit accounted for all of their points. UMD (5-0 overall, 1-0 NSIC) shot 49.2% (30 of 61) from the field and outrebounded St. Cloud State 41-26.

Ryan Bagley (20 points), Anthony Roberts (15) and Josh Tomasi (14) scored in double figures to lead the Huskies (2-3, 0-1).

UMD plays a nonconference game against Michigan Tech at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 27, in Houghton, Michigan.

Kilboten, Huskies hold off No. 14 Bulldogs in NSIC opener

Senior forward Nikki Kilboten had 24 points and 12 rebounds and St. Cloud State used a big fourth quarter to down No. 14 Minnesota Duluth 60-54 victory in their NSIC opener at Romano Gym.

Brehna Evans added 15 points, six steals and five rebounds for the Huskies (2-1 overall, 1-0 NSIC), who outscored the Bulldogs 18-8 in the final quarter.

Senior forward Brooke Olson was the lone UMD player to score in double figures with 22 points for the Bulldogs (2-2, 0-1), who shot 44.7% (21 of 47) for the game but only 27.3% (3 of 11) in the fourth quarter.

UMD, tied with Tampa at No. 14 in the latest Women’s Basketball Coaches Poll released Tuesday, returns to nonconference action as the Bulldogs host Northern Michigan at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 27, at Romano Gym.
